The original name of this month is Sextilis because it was the 6th month in the Ancient Calendar. Then it was named Augustus in honor of the Emperor Augustus.
This month is dedicated to harvest, storage and conservation (in a broader sense).
In particular August is dedicated to the Goddess Diana or the female polarity of Apollo.
Diana is defined as "Always Distant": she is a non-urban Goddess because she represents the sacralization of woods, forrests and wild places.
Her frantic dance, reserved only to women, is named "Ridda".
During the day Diana protects wild animals preserving their lives; during the night she hunts them giving them Death. In this way Diana embodies both Life and Death as deriving from an unique source.
Sacred animals to Diana are: lion, bear, deer, quail and hunting dog.
As Apollo is represented by the Sun, Diana is represented by the Moon. Her main symbol is the Bow representing the crescent moon and the "wild weapon".

When you, entering a forest, perceive the beauty of the forest and you feel to be in a complete harmony with it, then, intuitively, you are in peace with the Deities. They are an essential part of our real nature, our Deep Nature, and when we are separated by our real nature we live in the fear. Perceiving such normality means giving a real sense to our lives.
Undertaking the Roman Via to the Deities implies a path to awakening: with the practice of continuing consciousness and awareness we undertake our walking knowing that taking the path is more important than the destination itself.

5-13 July: Ludi Apollinares
July is enterely devoted to Apollo. This period, (Ludi Apollinares) is in particular dedicated to the most important Apollo's manifestations: wisdom, music, poetry, singing and theatre.
For this reason, during these days we are interested in these activites as "rituals", rather than mere spectators, concerning what Apollo sacralizes.
In these days, to complete the male polarity of Apollo, also Fortuna Muliebre (Women's Fortune) is evoked
In addition, in the past, July 5th in Rome was dedicated to the Poplifugium: this is a rite similar to the Regifugium (february 24th) but in this case Roman people take to flight.

5-13 luglio: Ludi Apollinares

June 9th: Vestalia
This day is dedicated to Vesta, a Great Goddess representing the sacralization of Fire preserving and maintaining life: Vesta represents also the sacralization of the Family.
Temples dedicated to Vesta have a circular shape (thus they are not oriented sites) and men are excluded there: Vesta has no human imagine but she is represented by a sacred fire which must remain always lit. This fire is extinguished and lit again on march the 1st.
In the past the priestesses Vestals were devoted to this fire's conservation: they were virgins dressed in white and they preside over the main religious rites and they had the power to pardon those sentenced to death. They were lead by the Vestal Maxima, one of the most important religious figure in the Roman Traditional Religion.
This day is thus dedicated to the family and to the sacralization of food cooking.

9 giugno: Vestalia
