This is one of the most important March's festivity together with the lighting of the Sacred Fire of Vesta. After these 9 days, today the new year effectively begins.
This festivity is enterely biased on the idea of "activity" and "expansion" both in Nature's vegetative activity and in body biological activity.
For Ancient Romans this day implied also the beginning of military and war activities.
The Mars' Weapons were in the past 12 lances and 12 shields (lance is the Mars' symbol by definition) which were taken in procession along the streets in Rome. Actually the Mars' Weapons were a lance and a shield rained down from the sky: King Numa made 11 copies to prevent their theft.
At present, we dedicate this day to our activities and our psycho-physical re-generation reflecting also on this idea of "shield" to create a form of protection against physical and soul diseases.
