In this day, the great esthatic festivities for the Great Mother Cybele, all the feminine major and minor energies, begin.
In particular this day is dedicated to elderly women because this day is dedictaed to Anna Perenna ("The years' Return"), an ancient Goddess.
Anna Perenna was an old woman who lived ina sacred wood near Rome. According to the myth, during a war between patricians and plebeians, Anna Perenna prepared a huge number of flatbreads for the plebeians besieged in the Monte Sacro in Rome saving them from starving.
In this ancient Goddess, the "years' return" is linked to a nourishing function.
Also this ancient Goddess is encompassed by Cybele. Cybele was represented in Rome by a big black stone: festivities dedicated to Cybele were named Megalesia because Cybele is named "The Great" (Megales in greek means "Great")
