March 1st: Matronalia and Fire of Vesta

On March the 1st the Sacred Year begins

During this day, the Sacred Fire of Vesta, which has continuously burnt in the last year, was put out and a new sacred fire was lighted for the next year.

This rite celebrated the Re-lighting of the Energy of Life. Symbolically we do the same today: we put out a fire to be re-lighted to synbolize the beginning of the new year with a new revitalizing force.

In this day also the Matronalia begins. This festivity is dedicated to Iuno and to solidity and prosperity of the Family. In particular this festivity is dedicated to Iuno Lucina (She Gives Birth) or Iuno protecting birth (delivery)

In this day it is better not to have knots because considered "impediments" to our regeneration.

1 Marzo: Matronalia e Fuoco di Vesta

Il primo Marzo segna l'inizio dell'Anno Sacro.

In questo giorno si spegneva il Fuoco di Vesta che aveva bruciato ininterrottamente per tutto lanno e si accendeva il nuovo fuoco.

E' la riaccensione dell'energia della vita. Simbolicamente facciamo lo stesso noi oggi: spegniamo un fuoco per riaccenderlo. In tal modo vogliamo significare la riprese dall'anno con una nuova forza vivificante.

In questo stesso giorno iniziano le feste Matronalia. E' una festa dedicata a Giunone e alla solidità e prosperità della Famiglia. In particolare ci si rivolge a Giunone Lucina (Che Dà alla Luce) ovvero Giunone che protegge il parto.

In questo giorno è di cattivo augurio avere dei nodi addosso poichè simbolicamente essi rappresentano "un impedimento" alla nostra rigenerazione.
