In the past, this day was dedicated to an ancient rite with a horses' race. In addition during this day a man dressed with animal skins, nicknamed Mamurius Veturius, was chased, beated and expelled from the city.
Today in this day we chase away all the negative elements and those things can intoxicate us: we keep apart those false and avid persons who can deceive us and a too heavy food with a frugal meal based on bread, wine and vegetables.
